Making Giant Medals

Supported with project grant funding from Arts Council England & FLUX Rotherham the team at Community Connect CIC are working co-creatively with

For this project we considered medals and war memorials in Wath. We talked about new medals for unsung heroic people - care providers and community facilities. The rugby club logo and aspects of the Manvers site feature in the designs as does an angel from the church.

Using hammers and homemade steel punches the team embossed their medal designs into four thick aluminium plates and flattened sections of copper pipe which were riveted together with copper nails and suspended on their handwoven textile ribbons.

Community Connect CIC in Wath provide a day service working towards community inclusion for adults with mild to moderate learning disability.
