Iron Man

‘Iron Man’ has a variety of local nicknames, Old Henry, Parkway Man, Iron Giant….He was commissioned by Sheffield City council’s Parks and Woodlands Dept after winning a National Lottery Heritage Fund for Sheffield’s Woodlands. Due to arson, joyriding and other antisocial uses of the woodland I proposed a cast iron sculpture that would be based on local themes. Visiting Athelstan Primary School a theme that arose was that of the children’s tales of relatives , ancient and contemporary, walking through Bowden Housteads woods on their way to and from their work in the steel mills.
